"THE DECEPTIVE DANGER OF DOUBT!"

Today’s Scripture

“If you have faith and do not doubt…it will happen” (Mar. 21:21, ESV)

Today's Word

G. Morgan Campbell was born on a farm in Tetbury, England.  He was the son of a Baptist minister.  His father and a prominent Preacher whose name was D.L. Moody had a profound impact on him.  The effect was so great that by the age of 13, he preached his first sermon.  In fact, by the age 15 he was preaching regularly in country chapels on Sundays and holidays.

However, when G. Morgan Campbell was around 20 years of age he began to experience doubts about the truth of the bible.  During this time he was reading the writings of various scientists such as Charles Darwin, John Tyndall, Herbert Spencer and Thomas Huxley.  What he read had an impact on the way he viewed the Holy Scriptures.  In other words, their writings created doubt in his mind about the truth and power of the bible; which was something that he had never experienced before.  The result of this infusion of doubt was that he cancelled all of his preaching engagements and put away all of his books of bible commentary.  In fact, he looked at his bible and said to himself, “I am no longer sure that this is what my father claims it to be; the Word of God.”

At some point, however, the Lord began to work on him.  He then purchased a new bible and said, “Of this I am sure, if it be the word of God, and if I come to it with an unprejudiced and open mind, it will bring assurance to my soul, itself.”  What was the result?  He gained a new and stronger assurance that the bible is indeed God’s written word.  He then went on to become one of the most powerful and influential bible preachers and expositors of his era, in both England and the United States.

Have you ever doubted in your heart that what God has promised you, would not come to pass?  When we constantly expose ourselves to people, places and things that contradict the bible and God’s promises to us or focus on circumstances that do not look promising; these things can independently or collectively open the door for doubt to enter into our hearts and minds; and therefore, not only, hinder us from doing what is pleasing to God, but also, hinder us from receiving the great things that God has for us.  If you are, therefore, experiencing doubt about God or any of the promises that he has made to you, for any reason (especially the afore mentioned), be encouraged that God, not only can, but will enable you to overcome it.  God will eliminate your doubts and fears; if you like G. Morgan Campbell, will not give up on Him, but instead, seek him with an open heart that longs strictly for ‘the truth’.  The revelations, reinforcement and other blessings that you will receive from God will drive out any doubt you may have, strengthen your faith and ultimately set you up to experience the great life of abundance, which God has promised you.

Today's Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank you for your tremendous love and precious promises.  There are times, however, that, some of us may encounter or experience things in life that may enable doubt to enter into our hearts and minds.  Our prayer is that you give us the strength to challenge this assault on our faith and trust you more; that we may overcome all forms of doubt, (which is an enemy of faith). This we ask, that we may experience the abundant life that you have made available to us, in Jesus name. Amen.
