Nate, who was 93 years old, said, “If I had to do life over again I would make more mistakes! I would take more chances. I would take myself less seriously. I would start some businesses that I never did. I would go to more places that I thought about going. I would have climbed some mountains and parachuted from an airplane. I would live a more adventuress life. I certainly would step out in faith and trust God more.” “I’m sure that I would have made a lot more mistakes, but it would have been worth it; it would have been worth it.”
A mistake is defined as a slip, fault or error. Because no one is perfect we are all going to make some mistakes in life. Yet, despite this, as much as we dislike making mistakes, they can actually benefit us if we learn from them. The bible tells us that Simon Peter made many mistakes as a disciple of Christ. In fact, the bible tells us that he rebuked Jesus when Jesus declared that he was going to allow himself to be crucified. Jesus immediately exposed what was going on. He helped Peter to realize that he made a mistake, by correcting him. Peter, in this situation and many others learned from his mistakes, and as a result became a great leader, mentor and pillar of the church.
God tells us in the bible that we are to strive for perfection. However, in doing so he realizes that we are going to make some mistakes. He allows us to make mistakes in life, not to beat us up, but instead to bless us; ultimately making us better people. So let me encourage you to strive for perfection in all that you do. Of course along the way, realize that some mistakes will be made, but, learn from them and use them to propel you forward and not backwards; that you may experience life more abundantly.
