“He came unto his own, and his own received him not.” (John 1:11, KJV)

Michael and Victor were brothers. Their father was the owner of a successful automobile dealership.
He would often take his sons to the dealership so that they could learn some things about the business and at the same time have some fun. He would often tell them to prepare themselves for the day that they would inherit some of the things that he owned. Both Michael and Victor would often say that they wanted to inherit the dealership and nothing else from their father.
Michael always enjoyed putting a coat of wax on the cars and occasionally driving them sometimes to impress his friends and the girls. Victor on the other hand, enjoyed hanging out with the mechanics and the sales teams as they did their work. Years later, after their father’s unexpected death his Michael and Victor received their inheritance.
Victor was given the dealership and Michael inherited some land that was near the family home. Victor after taking over the company; expanded it and made it even more successful. On the other hand, Michael was extremely displeased that he did not get the Dealership and despised the land which was given to him. He therefore, out of spite and without telling anyone, sold it for a few thousand dollars to someone who happened to be a commercial realtor. Thirteen months later that same land that Victor sold and despised was sold for 6.4 million dollars.
The bible tells us that Jesus went among his own people but they refused to accept him. There were many who should have embraced him, but they instead despised him; and as a result missed out on the greatest blessings in life. God has promised us many great things in life. Those things may not always come in the kind of packages that we like or even at the time that we would like. Nevertheless, since they are promises that come from God, we should understand that those gifts will be excellent and most beneficial to us. By despising and rejecting the people and things that God promised us and placed in our life, (like Michael and those who despised Jesus), we too will miss out on our blessings. Therefore, regardless of time, circumstances and a lack of understanding, (about some of these things), do not despise, but instead, be most grateful to God, that you may enjoy all of the abundant blessings that he makes available to us.

Heavenly Father we give you thanks for all things. There are blessings that you have promised us that we have not received, as well as, those that we have received. When we do not understand the value of the gifts that you have given us, please give us the patience and the passion to seek your wisdom about them, in order that we may not abandon or abuse them. Do these things for us, instead, that we may experience life more abundantly, in Jesus name. Amen.
